Hap Jacobs

Hap opened Jacobs surfboards in Hermosa Beach on Pacific Coast Highway in 1959. Business was good and then it was great and then it was ridiculous. "We were there at the beginning during I guess what they call the Golden Years of Surfing between the 60s and 70s," Hap says. Future shaping legends Lance Carson, Robert August and Rick Irons cut their teeth under Hap’s guidance. At the peak, Hap’s operation was turning out 125 boards per week. This volume enabled the precise, detail-oriented Hap to refine his templates, culminating in his finely tuned high-performance quiver on offer today.
