Robert
“Endless Summer”
August was born in Hermosa
Beach in 1944 and yet was
still only the second surfer
in the family (after his
father). After a stellar
competitive career, August was
drafted by Bruce Brown to
appear in the seminal surf
flick “Endless
Summer” and we all know
how that played out. In 1965
Robert learned how to shape
under the guidance of Hap
Jacobs. While his status as a
surf icon is married to movie
fame, his shaping and design
talents are such that by 2000
his Huntington Beach,
California, factory was
producing 4000 boards a year.
His designs are found at
breaks worldwide and the
Robert August shape remains
one of the most popular
anywhere.
