Eric Sorensen's The Great Highway
Weight: 0.00
I'm originally from San Francisco, currently living in the Chicago area with my wife and two boys. I started surfing Ocean Beach and all up and down the northern coast when I was 14 with my cousin Kevin Cunningham in the early Eighties.
I started painting seriously in 2002 after wrist surgery on my dominant right hand, which was quickly followed by the unexpected death of my cousin Kevin. I continue to use my left hand for my painting despite the full recovery of my right wrist.
My original subject matter were waves from old surf photos and magazines. I still remember waves I caught 20 years ago as clear as yesterday, and try to capture that feeling in my work. I also like to avoid fine detail; I think it makes you look a little harder, and leaves you new things to find every time you look. I love that print for two reasons: It has the feeling of excitement of coming over the hill down to the beach and seeing it going off. The other thing I like is it has that Ocean Beach thing of the waves going all over the place. Eric's prints are hand matted 8" X 10" prints.
