What Is It?
Waveriders Gallery is an online collection of the finest in surf art and photography for pleasure and profit.
Why is it?
Our mission is to promote the artists who celebrate the simple act of waveriding by offering their works for sale.
What Does It Do?
By selling these works to the public, we help support and nurture surf art in all its expressions, whether it be canvas, paper, film, digital impression, wood, or foam.
How’d It Come About?
We’re sitting in an undisclosed San Diego lineup in a dying south swell, plenty of time between sets, when someone says, “So what about surf art?” This leads to a long conversation about what surf art is, exactly, where one could find it, and why we’d like to see more of it. Several months of hard work and late evenings, and here we are.
Okay, So What Is Surf Art?
Our best guess—without going the whole Effete, Beret-Wearing, Skinny-Cigarette-Smoking, Aesthete route—is art (in any medium) inspired by or speaking to waveriding. We might be totally wrong—and if you have a different take, please drop us a line. (And if by chance you are an Effete, Beret-Wearing, Skinny-Cigarette-Smoking, Aesthete, then all offense is intentional.)
Who Are You?
A somewhat civilized gang of ne’er-do-wells who surf a lot and like looking at art. As far surfing goes, our experience spans the Mark Richards-Tom Curren-Kelly Slater eras. Some of us have art degrees. Some of us are graphic designers. Some of us are writers. All of us have opinions.
Can I Join Up?
Sure, we’re always looking for new artists in any medium to feature on the site. Let us know about you and your work.
Where Should I Direct Comments, Criticisms, and Compliments?
We’d like to hear from you, and if you can give us a surf report, so much the better.
or call us at 877.539.2680.
